Trail Mix - 2.28.19

February 28, 2019 – “One of the most overpowering thoughts in life is that Jesus loved us when there was nothing good in us to love, whatsoever. His love is “unilateral,” for He loved us first and His love is “unconditional,” for there is nothing that can “separate” us from His love, not even death! His love is also “unchangeable,” for He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Spurgeon said, “His love is strong as death and mightier than the grace.” “Who can separate us from the Love of God in Christ Jesus?” The answer is, “No one,” in heaven or earth! You are loved by the God Who is Creator, Controller and Consummator of the universe!” S. E. Trail
My prayer for you today is that you would apprehend and appreciate the love that we have in the Lord!
Weekly Memory Verse Challenge Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
“An English professor wrote the words, "A woman without her man is nothing" on the blackboard and directed the students to punctuate it correctly. The men wrote: "A woman, without her man, is nothing." The women wrote: "A woman: without her, man is nothing."

Trail Mix - 2.27.19

February 27, 2019 – “God’s word is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword…” but how many really believe this to be true. His Word is spiritual dynamite, can change liars into truth tellers, soften hard hearts, give sight to the spiritually blind, set the captive free, hypocrites are made sincere and aints’ become saints! God’s Word is the “power of God unto salvation!” Praise God from whom all blessings flow. S. E. Trail

My prayer for you today is for you to really “believe” your beliefs!
Weekly Memory Verse Challenge Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

“Due to a mix-up on election night, three politicians are forced to share a private jet in order to arrive in time for a rally. Once up in the air, one pulls out a $1000 bill and says, "I'm going to throw this $1000 bill out the window and make someone down below very happy." Not to be outdone, one rips a $1000 bill in half and throws it out the window, saying, "Look, I just made two people really happy." Not even noticing his stupid move, the third one brags, "Look, I'm going to throw 1000 $1 bills and make a lot more people a little happier." At this point the pilot, who has overheard all this bragging and can't stand it anymore, comes out and says, "I think I'll throw all three of you out of this plane and make millions of people happy."

Trail Mix - 2.26.19

February 26, 2019 – “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God.” Move the comma and you have the real truth. When the fool looks in his heart he doesn’t see God so he declares that God does not exist. On the other hand, the Christian looks in his heart and gladly proclaims, there is a God and He lives in His temple. God is a present, living reality. “The fool hath said, in his heart there is no god.” See how much difference a comma makes!  Only a fool could look at the witness for God’s existence in creation and in the creature (man) and come to the conclusion that there is no God. S. E. Trail
My prayer for you today is for you to have a “blessed assurance, Jesus is mine, oh what a foretaste of glory divine.”
Weekly Memory Verse Challenge Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

“A man and his ten-year-old son were on a fishing trip miles from home. At the boy's insistence, they decided to attend the Sunday worship service at a small rural church. The father forgot to bring any cash, so he reached in his pocket and gave his son a quarter to drop in the offering plate as it was passed. As they walked back to their car after the service, the father complained. "The service was too long, the sermon was boring, and the singing was off key." Finally the boy said, "Daddy, what did you expect for a quarter?

Trail Mix - 2.25.19

February 25, 2019 – “It’s sad that some folks are like doubting Thomas and must have a sensational experience in order to believe. We’re thankful that they do believe but Jesus had something important to say about those who have the “seeing is believing” kind of faith, “…blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” Simply having faith in your faith is little more than positive thinking. The object of our faith must be Christ and Christ alone. Faith and feelings are not synonymous! If you have faith in your faith the Devil will give you fits. A simple child-like faith is all that is necessary to come to Christ. True faith must be in and on Christ. When it is we do not meet doubt alone but with the person of Jesus Christ. "...In Christ alone, my hope if found..."Blessed are the believers!” S. E. Trail
My prayer for you today is for you to believe your beliefs and doubt your doubts!

February 24, 2019 – Gleanings from A. W. Tozer - “Many folks try to “get away from it all,” by running to the mountains or going down to the lake but the problem is no matter where you go you have to take yourself! If you have no peace it matters not what point on the map you run to but if you do have the “peace that passeth understanding,” then you can be happy anywhere. Jesus said, “birds have nests and foxes have holes but the son of man has no where to lay his head,” but He had peace!” S. E. Trail
My prayer for you today is for you to have a peace that can’t be perturbed!

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD
“A Sunday School teacher decided to have her young class memorize one of the most quoted passages in the Bible - Psalms 23. She gave the youngsters a month to learn the chapter. Little Ricky was excited about the task - but he just couldn't remember the Psalms. After much practice, he could barely get past the first line. On the day that the kids were scheduled to recite Psalms 23 in front of the congregation, Ricky was so nervous. When it was his turn, he stepped up to the microphone and said proudly, "The Lord is my Shepherd, and that's all I need to know." February 23, 2019 – “Believe your beliefs and doubt your doubts,” a wise man once said. There are many who go through life and are never sure of anything. We should give ourselves credit for what faith we have, not what we don’t have! Your faith may be a mixture of belief and doubt but at least you have some faith. Whatever you have came from God and He expects you to use it and affirm it. God would not ask us to believe if we could not!” S. E. Trail

Trail Mix - 2.22.19

February 22, 2019 Vance Havner said, “The Gospel is not a secret to be hoarded but a story to be heralded!” We are to be dispensers of God’s grace not depositories. Too many believers are stuffing themselves with Gospel blessings while millions go without even a morsel. We are debtors to all men to give freely what we have freely received. Jesus told Peter to, “Feed my sheep and feed my lambs.” The Living Water should overflow so that others may drink. David wrote the “…my cup runneth over…” and he gave us over 70 of the Psalms. We are blessed to be a blessing.” S. E. Trail

February 21, 2019 Gleanings from Vance Havner  - “Worry is a waste. It’s like sitting in a rocking chair, there’s a lot of motion but no movement! Many worry and doubt and fear about their salvation. The Israelite who worried although the blood was on his doorpost was just as safe as the one who rested in peace; he had security but didn’t enjoy it! Jesus is not just our refuge, He’s our dwelling place. He’s not just “a shelter in the time of storm,” He’s also “the haven of rest.” Anchor your soul in the “haven f rest my friend.” S. E. Trail

Many people are just like the Dead Sea, they are always getting but they do not give. A life spent for self is a life wasted. A life that never gives is small and with little redeeming value. The seat will be empty.” “That’s incredible!” said the man. “Who in their right mind would reserve a seat like this for the BCS championship and then not use it?” Fred said, “Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. “Oh... I’m sorry to hear that. That’s terrible. February 18, 2019 – Gleanings from Vance Havner “Years ago “sugar coated Christianity” was soundly condemned but today many churches seek to make the world “comfortable” with Christianity. They say they have changed their methodology but not the Message but is this true? If that was true then the “reproach” of the Savior, the Sect and the Saints would still be present but this “reproach” is nowhere to be found. The world hated Him and if we embrace His “reproach” they will hate us! This is not something we seek; it is a fact of the Christian life.” S. E. Trail

February 17, 2019 – Gleanings from Vance Havner - “The key to our understanding of the book of Job is not Job, verse 12 of chapter 42 where God blessed the latter end of His life. That is not the climax of the book of Job, for recovering his prosperity was incidental to the really important thing that happened to this man of God. As believers we should learn that He does not always restore what we have lost. The supreme element to this story is found in Job's statement of faith, “I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.” God does not have to explain everything to us, He wants us to "see" with eyes of faith, to walk by faith and not by sight.” S. E. Trail

Jesus simply invites us to Himself, for rest or restoration and guarantees that if we come, we can come in and anyone who comes to Him and comes in will be all right. “Come unto me…” and you will find rest for your soul is the Savior’s invitation. Come to Jesus and you will find all that you need.” S. E. Trail
My prayer for you today is for you to “…sup with Him and He with you!”
Weekly Memory Verse Challenge - 2 Corinthians 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. KJV
"There was this man that had a dog. He came home one day, and his dog was belly up with its legs sticking in the air. He wasn’t sure if it was dead or not, so he took it to the vet. He told the vet of his problem, and the vet said that there was a sure-fire way to see if the dog is indeed dead. He left the room and returned with a cat. He rubbed the cat in the dogs face, and after a while came to the conclusion that the dog was indeed dead. The man was upset and asked the doctor how much he owed him. The doctor said, “$550” The man was stunned. He asked the doctor to explain and the doctor said, “Fifty for the visit and $500 for (are you ready for this)   ……..the cat-scan!” ChristiansUnite.com

Trail Mix - 2.7.19

February 7, 2019 – “Salvation is free. You can’t earn it and you don’t deserve it. Discipleship is not free. It will cost you everything. Jesus used terms that sound strange today like, “Let the dead bury the dead, deny yourself, take up your cross, put your hand to the plow and don’t look back and dying daily.” These are terms that demand unquestioned obedience and absolute loyalty. Are you willing to “sell out” to Christ, “lock, stock, and barrel?” Notice that Jesus said that unless we are willing to make a great commitment to the great commandment and the great commission we cannot be His disciple.” S. E. Trail
My prayer for you today is for you to be “sold out” to Jesus in every way.
Weekly Memory Verse Challenge - 2 Corinthians 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. KJV

Trail Mix - 2.6.19

February 6, 2019 – Gleanings from Vance Havner - “The Communist Lenin had this motto, “Fewer but better.” What he meant was that it was better to have 100 fanatics than 1,000 who were indifferent or lukewarm. John Wesley said, "Give me one hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin, and desire nothing but God, and I care not a straw whether they be clergymen or laymen; such alone will shake the gates of hell and set up the kingdom of heaven on Earth." Give us such men, Lord!”
My prayer for you today is that you would be the kind of person who would “assault hell with a squirt gun!” S. E. Trail

“The story of Adam and Eve was being carefully explained in the children's Sunday School class. Following the story, the children were asked to draw some picture that would illustrate the story. Little Bobby was most interested and drew a picture of a car with three people in it. In the front seat, behind the wheel was a man and in the back seat, a man and a woman. The teacher was at a loss to understand how this illustrated the lesson of Adam and Eve. But little Bobby was prompt with his explanation. "Why, this is God driving Adam and Eve out of the garden!" Trail Mix - 2.5.19

February 5, 2019 – Gleanings from Vance Havner - “Draw nigh to God, and He will draw night to you.” Many folks employ a lot of religious hustle and bustle in the attempt and ignore the things set forth in God’s Word that will accomplish the goal. God has provided His Word, prayer, and many other ways of drawing closer to Him. A step up in commotion, mis-directed zeal or an emotional binge won’t do what needs to be done. What we need already is there but like sugar in the sweet tea, it needs to be stirred up. S. E. Trail
My prayer for you today is for you to “stir up the gift that is in you.”
Weekly Memory Verse Challenge - 2 Corinthians 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. KJV
“An Amish man wanted a loan for $500. He approached his local banker. The banker pulled out the loan application, asking, "What are you going to do with the money?" "Take some jewelry to city and sell it," said the Amish man. "What have you got for collateral?" queried the banker, going strictly by the book. "Don't know what collateral means." "Well that's something of value that would cover the cost of the loan. Have you got any vehicles?" "Yes, I have a 1949 Chevy pickup." The banker shook his head, "How about livestock?" "Yes, I have a horse." "How old is it?" "I don't know; it has no teeth." Finally the banker decided to make the $500 loan. Several weeks later the Amish man was back in the bank. He pulled out a roll of bills, "Here's the money to pay loan," he said, handing the entire amount including interest. "What are you going to do with the rest of that money?" "Put it in my pocket." "Why don't you deposit it in my bank?" he asked. "I don't know what deposit means." "Well, you put the money in our bank and we take care of it for you. When you want to use it you can withdraw it." The Amish man leaned across the desk, looking suspiciously at the banker, and asked, "What you got for collateral?" ChristiansUnite.com

Trail Mix - 2.4.19

February 4, 2019 – “Are you more interested in the “Blesser” or the “blessing?” Many of us are so focused on the gift that we miss seeing the Giver! It’s possible to pray for a blessing for years and become so occupied with this or that thing that we sacrifice the best on the altar of the good. Rest in the “Blesser, the Giver” and then whatever we may lose, we have in Him, and in Him we have everything! In Him is “all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” S. E. Trail
My prayer for you today is for you to appreciate all you have in Christ.
Weekly Memory Verse Challenge - Jude 1:22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
“A strong young man at the construction site was bragging that he could outdo anyone in a feat of strength. He made a special case of making fun of Morris, one of the older workmen. After several minutes, Morris had enough. "Why don't you put your money where your mouth is?" he said. "I will bet a week's wages that I can haul something in a wheelbarrow over to that outbuilding that you won't be able to wheel back." "You're on, old man," the braggart replied. "It's a bet! Let's see what you got." Morris reached out and grabbed the wheelbarrow by the handles. Then, nodding to the young man, he said, "All right. Get in." ChristiansUnite.com

Trail Mix - 2.3.19

February 3, 2019 – “What is the world looking for when they see Christians? We believe that they are looking for consistency in our behavior. One unsaved man said, “I’d be a Christian if I didn’t know so many Christians.” What an indictment! Also, they are looking to see if we really care. Someone said that, “Folks won’t know how much we care until we show how much we care.” Compassion moved Jesus and it should move us also.  The American church is filled with folks whose conduct doesn’t compliment their creed. Jesus had much to say concerning this kind of contradiction. The Scriptures declare that believers must take care to avoid the “appearance of evil.”   S. E. Trail
My prayer for you today is for your “light” to shine the love of Jesus wherever you go.
Weekly Memory Verse Challenge - Jude 1:22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
”The old time pastor was galloping down the road, rushing to get to church on time. Suddenly his horse stumbled and pitched him to the ground. In the dirt with a broken leg, the pastor called out, "All you saints in Heaven help me get up on my horse!" Then, with superhuman effort, he leaped onto the horse's back and fell off the other side. Once again on the ground, he called to Heaven, "All right, just half of you this time!" ChristiansUnite.com

Trail Mix - 2.2.19

February 2, 2019 – “God is always seeking to “enlarge” our vision and He does this in a curious way. God takes us from one mountain top, through a valley, to the next higher mountain top to increase our view. Job was already a man of faith when God allowed him to go through a deep valley to the next mountain top. When he got to the top he said, “I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear; but now mine eye seeth thee.” Thank God for the valleys!” S. E. Trail
My prayer for you today is that you would be able to praise God in any circumstance of your life.
Weekly Memory Verse Challenge - John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. KJV
Exercise program for those over 60!
“Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side. With a 5- kg potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer. After a couple of weeks, move up to 10- kg potato bags. Then try 50- kg potato bags and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100- kg potato bag in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I'm at this level.) After you feel confident at each level, put a potato in each bag. ChristiansUnite.com

Trail Mix - 2.1.19

February 1, 2019 – “Isaiah 12:2 declares that the Lord is my salvation, my strength and my song! All of us want strength for life’s journey and the human heart needs a song for the everyday grind of life. There is only one true source for both and that is to make the Savior your salvation. No one can do this for us; we must receive His salvation personally to have His strength and His song.  “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid…” There can be no song without the Savior! Invite Jesus into your heart, make Him Lord of your life and you will have a song to sing!” S. E. Trail

My prayer for you today is for you to "...know Christ and the power of His resurrection."

“Attending a wedding for the first time, a little girl whispered to her mother, "Why is the bride dressed in white?"
