Trail Mix - 8.7.19

August 7, 2019 “Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to be consistent in anything now days? I want to be in my daily devotions but more often than not there is some kind of distraction. I want to in my witness for Christ but the business of life with all its stresses breaks in on my good intentions. Remember that we shall reap if we “faint” not! There is a payoff for being consistent. Reliability and dependability and close relatives to consistency! Our goal should be to be like the One who has demonstrated His consistency in all His ways!” S. E. Trail

My prayer today is, God give me the grace to be consistent in the things that matter most.

1 Corinthians 15:58  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. KJV

“A priest, a minister and a guru sat discussing the best positions for prayer, while a telephone repairman worked nearby "Kneeling is definitely the best way to pray," the priest said "No," said the minister. "I get the best results standing with my hands outstretched to Heaven." "You're both wrong," the guru said. "The most effective prayer position is lying down on the floor." The repairman could contain himself no longer. "Hey, fellas," he interrupted. "The best prayin' I ever did was when I was hangin' upside down from a telephone pole."

Trail Mix - 8.6.19

August 6, 2019 “Have you ever been lonely? Some of God's choicest servants have. In 2 Timothy 4 Paul is old, alone except for Luke and about to meet his Lord and he writes for Timothy to "...come before winter..." In God's work you had better resolve early on that men may fail but God never does. HE comes in when everyone else has gone out! We may feel lonely but we are never alone when we know HIM!” Vance Havner

My prayer for you today is for a faith that realizes that He is the Omni-present One!

Deuteronomy 33:27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them. KJV

“The young couple invited their elderly pastor for Sunday dinner. While they were in the kitchen preparing the meal, the minister asked their son what they were having. "Goat," the little boy replied. "Goat?" replied the startled man of the cloth, "Are you sure about that?" "Yep," said the youngster. "I heard Dad say to Mom, 'Today is just as good as any to have the old goat for dinner.' "

Lord, keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth!

Trail Mix - 8.5.19

August 5, 2019 “A wise man once said, "A boat can be in the water without the water being in the boat!" The Word of GOD teaches us that we are to be in the world, but not of the world. God never promised to take us out of this world when the going gets tough but HE has promised to take us through. Sail on my friend, trust GOD and keep the water out of your boat. “Love not the world…” S. E. Trail

My prayer for you today is that you would so make Jesus the focus of your life that all other things would fade into unimportance in comparison.

Matthew 6:24  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. KJV

“A well-worn one-dollar bill and a similarly distressed twenty-dollar bill arrived at a Federal Reserve Bank to be retired. As they moved along the conveyor belt to be burned, they struck up a conversation. The twenty-dollar bill reminisced about its travels all over the country. "I've had a pretty good life," the twenty proclaimed. "Why I've been to Las Vegas and Atlantic City, the finest restaurants in New York , performances on Broadway, and even a cruise to the Caribbean ." "Wow!" said the one-dollar bill. "You've really had an exciting life!" "So, tell me," says the twenty, "where have you been throughout your lifetime?" The one dollar bill replies, "Oh, I've been to the Methodist Church, the Baptist Church, the Lutheran Church."
The twenty-dollar bill interrupts, "What's a church?"

Trail Mix - 8.4.19

August 4, 2019 Jesus said, "Marvel not...if the world hate you." When you let your light shine for CHRIST you expose the works of darkness and you share the hatred that this world has for our LORD. Light has come and men love darkness rather than the LIGHT that reveals their sin. This world resents the LIGHT that shows it up. When we are hated by the world we are in good company! Walk in the light as He is in the light! If your light is on a hilltop, it cannot be hid! S. E Trail

My prayer for you today is for you to know the “reproach” of Christ and embrace it!

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. KJV

The chef of an upscale restaurant collided with a waiter one day and spilled coffee all over the computer. The liquid poured into the processing unit and resulted in some dramatic crackling and popping sounds. After sopping up the mess, everyone gathered around the terminal as the computer was turned back on again. "Please let it work," pleaded the guilt-ridden waiter. A waitress replied, "Should be faster than ever. That was a double espresso."

Trail Mix - 8.3.19

August 3, 2019 – “Today's church is busy with men, methods, money, marketing etc. I wonder if God is pleased with what HE sees and hears. It takes time to be holy, but most of us are too busy for that and too easily distracted. GOD gives us those seekers who's "soul panteth after thee, O GOD. Psalms 42:1, Give us GOD thirsty souls!” S. E. Trail

My prayer for you today is for a heart that is thirsting for the “living water” that Jesus promised to those who would come to Him and drink.

Matthew 5:6  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. KJV

“A kindergarten teacher gave her class a "show and tell" assignment. Each student was instructed to bring in an object that represented their religion to share with the class. The first student got up in front of the class and said, "My name is Benjamin and I am Jewish and this is a Star of David." The second student got up in front of the class and said, "My name is Mary. I'm a Catholic and this is a Rosary." The third student got in up front of the class and said, "My name is Tommy. I am Baptist, and this is a casserole."

Trail Mix - 8.2.19

August 2, 2019 – “Scripture teaches us to, “…be careful for nothing,” but how often do we fret and worry over the things of this life. If you have trusted the most important thing in life to the Lord, your immortal soul, why would you then stress over things which are temporal and transitory? We are told to, “Cast our cares and our burdens on Him,” and in prayer make all our wants and needs know to Him. Friend, “Take your burdens to the Lord, and leave them there…” S. E. Trail

My prayer for you today is for your heart to be filled with trust, not timidity!

Luke 10:40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. KJV

“A married couple in their 60's are visited by a fairy who grants them both a wish. 'I want to travel around the world with my darling husband', says the wife ... 2 tickets for a luxury cruise magically appear in her hand! Husband says 'sorry love, my wish is to have a wife 30 years younger than me ...' so the fairy waves her wand and the husband becomes 92!”

Trail Mix - 8.1.19

August 1, 2019 – “Think of the grace needed to save, sanctify and seal one sinner; then multiply that by the many millions who have trusted Christ down through the ages and you will have some notion of the abundance of the Grace of God. Paul said, “Where sin did abound, grace did much more abound.” Little wonder that John Newton could sing, “Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me…” Those who are saved by His grace find satisfaction in His grace.” Vance Havner

My prayer for you today is for a greater appreciation of God’s amazing, awesome grace!

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. KJV

“A certain pastor observed a little girl standing outside the preschool Sunday school classroom between Sunday school and worship, waiting for her parents to come and pick her up for "big church." The pastor noticed that she clutched a big storybook under her arm with the title "Jonah and the Whale." Feeling mischievous, he knelt beside the girl and asked, "What’s that you have in your hand?" "This is my storybook about Jonah and the whale," she answered." Tell me something," he continued, "do you believe that story about Jonah and the whale?" The girl said, "Why, of course I believe it!" The pastor inquired further, "You really believe a man can be swallowed up by a big whale, stay inside him all that time, and come out okay?" She declared, "Yes! This story is in the Bible, and we talked about it in Sunday school today." Then the pastor asked, "Can you prove to me this story is true?" She thought for a moment and then said, "Well, when I get to heaven, I’ll ask Jonah." Finally the pastor asked, "What if Jonah’s not in heaven?" The girl put her hands on her hips and sternly declared, "Then YOU can ask him!"
